Brand Introduction

Cohiba is the premier Havana cigar brand.

This cigar was created in 1966 specifically for President Fidel Castro, produced in the then-secretly operated, now world-renowned "El Laguito" cigar factory. Besides being used by Cuban leaders, Cohiba cigars were also presented as prestigious gifts to heads of state and diplomats.

Cohiba cigars entered the international market in 1982.

The name "Cohiba" originates from an ancient language of the Cuban Taino Indians, referring to the tobacco leaves they smoked. Columbus's account describes this type of tobacco leaf roll as the earliest form of cigar known to Europeans.

The leaves of Cohiba cigars represent the "selection of the selection" from five of the finest Vegas Finas de Primera cigars from the Vuelta Abajo region of San Juan Martínez and the San Luis region.

The hallmark of Cohiba cigars lies in the fact that their two filler tobaccos—Seco and Ligero—undergo a third fermentation in oak barrels, resulting in a richer, fuller flavor profile. No other cigar blends strength and refinement quite like Cohiba.

Since 2007, the Línea Maduro series has complemented the Cohiba brand. This series comprises three sizes and is known for its exceptionally deep-colored wrappers. The carefully selected and fermented wrappers are aged for at least five years in tercios (a type of tobacco wrapped in palm leaves). This gives these medium to full-bodied cigars an incredibly complex flavor profile.

All Cohiba cigars are “totalmente a mano, tripa larga”—completely handmade long-filler cigars.
