H. Upmann's Connossieur No. 1 has long been considered a hidden gem by connoisseurs. Its initial aroma is soft and delicate, gradually revealing a rich and profound complexity as it burns. What may seem unremarkable at first transforms into a fragrant, layered, and harmonious blend.
These cigars are stored in a classic 25-cigar box and matured under optimal conditions. The open binding helps the flavors develop steadily and gives it exceptional aging potential. With a little patience, the Connossieur No. 1 will develop into a full-bodied, robust cigar, its flavor profile becoming increasingly refined over time.
A true connoisseur's choice—complex, elegant, and layered.
Brand Introduction
In 1844, brothers Hermann and Auguste Hoopmann, from a German banking family, registered the trademark. Legend has it that they removed the silent "H" from the Spanish alphabet and added a dotted "H" after their surname, creating the abbreviation "Hermanos" (Spanish for "brothers").
The key to Hoopmann's success lay in its unwavering commitment to high-quality products. The cigars were packaged in Spanish cedar boxes, imprinted with a quality guarantee and Hermann Hoopmann's signature, and were subsequently exported to Europe. Initially, these cigars were primarily given as gifts to clients of Hoopmann Bank. However, the rise of Havana cigars in the mid-19th century ensured the brand's enduring influence. Hermann Hoopmann was one of the owners of five of Cuba's largest cigar factories, who together formed the "Havana Brand Association" to better combat counterfeit products. Later, the merger of the bank and the cigar factories led to changes in ownership and some difficulties. Despite this, the H. Upmann brand remains synonymous with premium Havana cigars, ranging in strength from mild to medium.
All tobacco used in H. Upmann cigars comes from the Vuelta Abajo tobacco-growing region.
Upmann cigar boxes are adorned with no fewer than 14 medals, including 11 gold medals won at 19th-century international exhibitions.
Today, the brand boasts numerous "totalmente a mano, tripa larga" – fully handcrafted long-filler cigars.
